Unisys commences IT Outsourcing business in China

US software and services organization Unisys stated that Unisys commences IT Outsourcing business in China with the purpose of consuming more than US$ 200 here over the next 5 years time period. This declaration was published on 16th march 2006. Vice president of the company stated that they have a big strategic interest in China for Software Outsourcing and IT services. He also stated that it is company’s one of the fastest growing region. The company has started a new technology center in Shanghai which will influence country’s low-cost manpower to facilitate software development and services to company’s customers worldwide for Software Outsourcing services.

IT Outsourcing services

He stated that the center will specifically concentrate on providing software development and maintenance services along with other services like IT outsourcing, BPO (business process outsourcing), as well as call center services. Center would also provide the help desk services to its clients. The company would initially invest 8 mln US$ this year. This investment is expected to grow up to 200 mln US$ in the following 5 years time. In the initial stages company would hire the staff of 250 for Offshore Software Development services. This figure is also expected to grow to 1200 with in next 3 years time. The company already has an existence in China with both local and foreign customers including some big names globally. This list includes the names of HSBC Bank, Citibank, Air China and many more for IT Outsourcing services. Company thinks that their Shanghai center is an integral part of the company's business strategy to boost company’s IT Outsourcing business, which comprises one of the pillars of Unisys's global strategy.

Company, in the year 2004 started a similar technology center in Bangalore, India also for the overseas service. Companies like IBM and Accenture has already started to shift substantial resources overseas. So Unisys is considered to be late to join the party for overseas services. The fact is company didn’t start to be a service provider company before a few years ago. But now company is catching up the other competitors for overseas services in IT industry. He also stated that overseas staff to the company’s ‘Global Delivery Model’ would account for 20% of its global strength by the year 2008. This figure is expected to up by 4% than the last year statistics.

The Shanghai center would also perform as a hub for the firm's open source software solutions scheme. It is also considered to be another key priority for the company’s long-term growth for IT Outsourcing. Company is also expecting China to be an Information Technology center for open systems and services. He also stated that this move of the company is in the response of worldwide interest in open source systems by venture across the board for Software Outsourcing. In present scenario it is marked that almost all the businesses are viewing at open source services.

Company also sees an opportunity in facilitating open source software and services to China's other interest areas. Company is expecting a big boost for their IT Outsourcing services.
