Uganda soon to start Offshore Outsourcing

Offshore Outsourcing is not a new term for Uganda as the country is engaged in this business since independence. Till date country has been aggressively engaged in the in the products and services of the most of their raw materials to the countries like Europe and America. But Uganda soon to start Offshore Outsourcing IT services. A US company is to launch the call centre in the country as a part of IT Outsourcing and is also to employ 450 operators. The call center is to work 3 shifts daily, and 7 days a week earning an anticipated wage of about US$1,000 every month.

Though, the foundation for equipping the residents to work in the complicated offshoring industry had begun earlier. The government through the department of education came into a contract with (GMC-TIN) and Serebra Learning Corporation (Canada) to offer low cost and reasonable education in ICT, expert and specialized development courses including call technologies services and call centre management training through a program known as EasyLearning.

This curriculum will go a long way in connecting the digital separation through access to ICT education and offer Ugandan's with Offshore Outsourcing job and profession opportunities. People are also taking keen interest in this online course and many of them have already passed the exams too. Country is now ready to set so IT Outsourcing services in the territory. Offshore Outsourcing is the process by which one corporation hands over part of their company’s work to another corporation, making it accountable for the design and implementation of the functionalities and business process under predetermined strategy regarding necessities and stipulations from the IT Outsourcing company.

In this era of globalization, in the world where IT has turned into the backbone of any corporation, very many giant corporations like IBM, GE, Microsoft, etc are commencing to shift some of their vital but peripheral functions like low-end Software Development services and help-desk services to low cost service provider countries. Over the last decade time period, India has been the chief Offshore Outsourcing destination for global IT services and Business Process Offshoring (BPO) trade because of their enormous pool of highly educated and talented, English speaking manpower strength who are eager to work for just a little bit of what their complements in Europe are paid. At present, there are almost 40,000 overseas people working in India but a World Bank report suggests that by the year 2009, the figure could go up to 160,000.

As far as Uganda is concern for IT Outsourcing, country has talents that possess the skills like clear-accented for English language, speak slowly and deliberately, and be likely to have a cultural mannerism that makes them enduring in dealing with customers overseas. These factors might be useful for the country in the initial stages for Offshore Outsourcing.
